Father of many gentiles

Written by  Yona Levy Grosman

Translated by  Lami Halperin.

Father of many gentiles
He promised
And love
Didn’t promise
And only this
He
Requested
At the Sacrifice.
And the slaughtering knife
Can be found
As usual
In its place
And the coals are crackling
In eagerness
Memory of the odor brings forth

Lust flooding
Wide open nostrils
The handle upright
Tense.
In a short while
Contact
And afterwards
Penetrating
The heavens standing as witnesses
In stillness
Dry eyes
Gaping at the outcry
With no word
Of consolation.

Father of many peoples
Promised
Yet a pitying god,
Love,
Did not promise.
